What is Storm Water Pollution Protection?

The Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, or SWPPP, was established in the early 1990s as part of amendments to the Clean Water Act. At that time, George H. W. Bush was President of the United States. The EPA introduced these measures because they realized that stormwater runoff was a significant contributor to water pollution, carrying contaminants like oil, heavy metals, and other pollutants into our waterways. By implementing SWPPP, businesses and construction sites are required to adopt best practices to reduce this runoff, ultimately helping to keep our water cleaner and safer.
